Dry needling is a powerful, safe, and non invasive treatment technique administered by trained therapists with extensive knowledge of the muscoluskeletal system. Thin, monofilament needles are inserted into pathologic tissue throughout our body. Through Ellen’s intensive training and certification with Intricate Art Spine and Body Solutions, she uses it to directly impact the autonomic nervous system to promote homeostasis throughout our brain and body, which in turn promotes healing and restoration from within. It is effective for both acute and chronic orthopedic conditions, neurological disorders, autoimmune disorders, and gastrointestinal/urinary dysfunction. She not only uses it to combat pain and injury, but also our body’s systemic stress response. It can be a powerful tool for mental health conditions, like depression and anxiety.
Unlike traditional methods of dry needling that “piston” a trigger point in the muscle, Ellen utilizes a “single advancement” approach. This method allows her to target more tissue surface area, while being more comfortable for the patient.
Although acupuncture needles are being used, it is not acupuncture. Dry needling is based on the Western medicine knowledge and application of anatomy and physiology. Acupuncture is an ancient Eastern medicine practice created long before western medicine, and is used to treat and balance our energy systems and Meridians. They are two very different approaches to treatment. One is not better than the other! Both are powerful and effective. -
Pelvic floor dysfunction is an umbrella term for males and females to describe issues related to many different symptoms. Pelvic pain and/or weakness, prolapse, pain with sex, urinary dysfunction, constipation and other bowel dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, and pre and post natal issues are all subcategories.
Like most things in our body, problems in one area can lead to dysfunction in others. You may not realize symptoms you experience are even related. Ellen knows this is a very sensitive region and topic for patients, so she will listen thoroughly and together with you, create a treatment plan that is both comprehensive and comfortable. -
There are many manual therapy techniques Ellen has learned through coursework, trainings, and experience including soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilizations, myofascial release, visceral mobilizations, trigger point release, and Graston technique (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilizations). She is certified in RockTape application.

Two main components to physical therapy are what are known as neuromuscular re-education and therapeutic exercise. Using movement and various forms of teaching to reduce dysfunctional movement patterns, Ellen’s treatment style is more gentle and restorative. Let’s get back to basics to build better foundations! Breath work, functional movement techniques, and Pilates based exercise create effective strategies to connecting mind and body awareness to improve movement patterns and combat re-injury. Of course, sport or activity specific movements will be incorporated whenever appropriate. Ellen has a soft spot for athletes and biomechanics/kinesiology. She has experience treating athletes of many sports, ranging from recreational to collegiate athletes, ages 14-80+. However, her space does not offer room for big gym equipment and therefore, your program will not incorporate significant strength and conditioning while in session.
You will receive one on one physical therapy in order to best collaborate with Ellen. Her goal is to create an effective, evidence based treatment plan to help address both the physical and mental affects of pain, injury, and pathology. While healing any pathology, the primary goal is to always progress towards mind and body wellness- the essence of health.
